Texas is one of the US states with tremendous potential to develop and use clean, renewable energy such as solar, wind and biomass. Thanks to new regulation established by the Texas government, 2000 MW of electricity must come from renewable energy sources. The solar and wind potential in Texas is so big that it can generate 400 times the amount of energy used in Texas per year.
Wind energy alone can produce 8 times the amount of power that is now generated by the state’s electric power plants combined. Solar energy can produce even a greater amount of electricity. Essentially, Texas needs to use only a fraction of its renewable energy sources to meet the state’s energy needs.
Texas is more known for its fossil fuel oil production facilities, but as the government provides incentives to develop renewable energy sources, Texans grab the opportunity to create businesses and jobs surrounding the industry. Farmlands are used for wind turbines and solar farms are popping up all around the state. Texans understand the potential they have to develop sustainable renewable energy in Texas that will create jobs and boost the economy, along with protecting the environment and powering the homes of the 25 million Texans living in the southern state.
