New York has great wind energy potential, in areas in the central and western part of the state it can even be compared to the potential that lays in California. Recent advancements in wind energy and turbine technology have significantly reduced the cost of producing electricity from wind. The 2 main wind farms in New York are located in Madison and Wyoming.
New York’s also has great potential in developing solar energy and biomass energy that will the state to deal with its high consumption levels of energy particularly in urban environment.
The development of renewable energy in New York is helping creating jobs and reducing the costs of producing power to its major cities. It is also helping the state to deal with high peak electricity demands from its bigger cities.
All and all New York’s reforms, policies and tax incentives are pushing renewable energy forward and with it the New York ambition of becoming a leading renewable energy power state on the east coast of the US.
